How does it work?
Aetheia's automated procedures are designed to offer seamless integration into both in-clinic and remote diagnostic workflows. With a single click of a button, either the technician physically present with the patient or the optometrist operating remotely can initiate the selected procedure, choosing a corneal sweep or a gross eye examination.
This functionality ensures operational efficiency and consistency across diverse clinical environments, particularly beneficial for distributed practices or tele-ophthalmology settings. Once activated, the system automatically aligns, focuses, and begins the examination, eliminating the need for manual adjustments and thereby reducing variability in image acquisition.
The examination process captures both eyes in sequence, using advanced imaging protocols tailored to the selected procedure. Aetheia records the entire process in high-resolution 4K video, preserving every detail for post examination review, documentation, or training purposes.

The first video demonstrates Aetheia’s auto-focusing capability in real time. Upon initiation, the system intelligently detects the the corneal reflex and rapidly adjusts the focal plane to achieve precise clarity. This ensures optimal imaging without the need for manual intervention, significantly reducing technician or clinician workload and enhancing consistency across examinations.
Automated Pupil Location & Centring
In the second video, Aetheia performs automatic centring on the pupil. The system identifies the the corneal reflex and dynamically adjusts both camera orientation and alignment to centre the eye perfectly within the frame. This process is completed swiftly and accurately, ensuring that subsequent scans are based on a correctly aligned visual axis, which is critical for reproducible clinical results.
Automated Full Corneal Sweep
This fourth video demonstrates a fully automated gross eye examination. The procedure begins with the system aligning itself to the patient's eye position, automatically adjusting the camera angle, illumination, and slit lamp configuration. Within seconds, the Aetheia performs a comprehensive external inspection of the eye, capturing high-definition 4K video that details eyelid position, scleral appearance, conjunctival condition, and corneal clarity.
