Chief Executive Officer
Carl joined Aston EyeTech as Chief Executive following a decade in the consumer electronics industry. Most recently, he was CEO of the P2i Group, leading the business from pre-revenue tech start-up to dominant player in its sector. Prior to this, Carl spent three years as CEO acquiring, running, and successfully exiting Adria Ltd, Ireland’s largest textile business. He was previously Group Managing Director of the Caudwell Group, Europe’s then biggest privately-owned mobile telecommunications support business with sales of £1.5bn. Prior to that, he was Chief Executive of Flexonics, the principal division of global precision engineering group Senior plc, and Divisional President at SIEBE plc where for three years he ran the group’s worldwide recovery division.

Jonathan has a background in senior IT Management, with a specialism toward software development in addition to general technology management. He has a Computer Science honours degree from the University of Exeter. Over the past 12 years he has managed teams developing key commercial and bespoke software in both the Fire & Rescue and the Education sectors. Jonathan has extensive experience running and teaching teams using Agile development methodologies, particularly the Scrum methodology. Jonathan is a keen advocate of using design patterns in software development. An expert in internet, cloud, and data management technology, Jonathan has developed extensive network connected data processing systems including multi-terabyte data warehouses used for data analysis.

John is the Non-Executive Chairman of Aston EyeTech, EYOTO’s parent company. An experienced Private Equity practitioner and winner of Midlands Dealmaker Awards four times with Bridgepoint (once) and LDC (three times). A seasoned Non Executive Director having held numerous board seats in a private equity and independent capacity during that period. Previously John was an Investment Committee member of LDC and currently chairs the Investment Committees of Finance Birmingham and CCF (Capital Creative Fund) in London. John has led a number of significant transactions including a major MBO which resulted in Lloyds Development Capital’s largest ever gain exceeding £60 million on a £6.75 million investment. John sits on the ASCEND SEIS Fund II & III Investment Committee and brings a wealth of investment experience and expertise to the team.

E. Dean Butler founded LensCrafters in 1983. He served as its Chief Executive Officer until 1988. In that same year, Mr. Butler founded Vision Express in Europe, which merged with the French retail group, GPS, to form Grand Vision in late 1997. Mr. Butler served as Chairman of Vision Express (UK) Ltd. Group from 1988 to 1997.
Previously, Mr. Butler held several different positions in the advertising and marketing division of The Procter & Gamble Company from 1969 to 1983. He has served as the Chairman of Eyeshop, a private optical concept company, Chairman of Sight Resource Corporation, and a Director of 1-800 Contacts Inc., the publicly held Utah-based contact lens retailer. He currently is on the Advisory Board of CooperVision, and a Director of Neurolens.

As a highly successful entrepreneur and investor, Peter brings 20 years’ experience in the healthcare sector, holding numerous directorships across a wide range of life sciences businesses. Over this period, Peter has been involved with a number of high profile turnarounds and exits within the sector, including the acquisition of Surgicraft’s loss making business where, as Managing Director, sales quadrupled within three years and the business was subsequently sold to ISIS Equity Partners. Other key healthcare positions held, both previously and currently, include Bridges Ventures, Cisiv, Diagnostic World, Spring Active and Newtech Ortho.
