US Retail Scale

Efficiency and image reliability with Aetheia:Auto

Background

A major US retail chain that delivers eye care services was looking to improve the efficiency of its existing slit lamp examination process. Technician led imaging was taking too long, training demands were high and the associated operational costs would increase as they scale. The retailer began evaluating Aetheia:Auto alongside other technologies in its dedicated clinical testing facility to identify a solution that could streamline workflows.

Challenge

Manual examinations typically lasted around fifteen minutes and often exceeded this when technicians encountered difficulties with focus, positioning or illumination. Image quality issues resulted in retakes for thirty percent of exams, contributing to delays, increased cost and uneven technician confidence. The organisation needed a system that could deliver faster examinations, reliable image quality and dramatically reduced training requirements.

Aetheia's Contribution

Aetheia:Auto was assessed in the retailer’s controlled testing lane. The device’s automated focusing, illumination control and structured, step guided workflow allowed technicians to complete a full imaging set with minimal manual technique. The retailer concentrated on whether automation could remove the variability and inefficiency present in their current approach.

Outcome

Testing showed that Aetheia:Auto reliably delivered full examinations in under five minutes, with suitable imagery captured on the first attempt each time. Retakes were effectively eliminated, and technicians required less than an hour of training to operate the system confidently. When compared with the other technologies under review, the retailer concluded that Aetheia:Auto provided the strongest advantages in speed, consistency and reduced training cost, making it the clear choice for potential future rollout.

Feedback

“This technology is game changing in terms of its ease of use, lower training requirements, and consistent imaging.”

The “SpaMedica Experience”

By Alex Bamford | 20/11/2024

Clinical standards with Aetheia:Remote Background SpaMedica needed to maintain consistent cataract grading quality across its network while improving flexibility in clinic staffing. In-person examinations delivered excellent outcomes, but covering all sites with their own in-house Optometrists was increasingly challenging, particularly during periods of high demand, and this was impacting the number of clinics being scheduled…
